After two decades of fighting to stop the previous fee simple title holder of Carrington (Paul Kelly of New York) from building on our burial cave (Te Ana o Taite), Ngati Kahu signed an agreement on 7th February this year with the new fee simple title holder (Guo Jie Gui of Shanghai).
Under the agreement the burial cave is protected for the next millennium. Also under the agreement, Ngati Kahu will make an annual cultural exchange trip to Shanghai to increase our mutual respect and understanding for each other's cultures.
The first annual exchange is 11th - 19th May 2015 and marks the end of one era and the beginning of another in the history of the Ngati Kahu nation.
However one thing remains unchanged - Kia Pumau Tonu te Mana Motuhake o Nga Hapu o Ngati Kahu.
