It is with great sadness that we received news from the whanau that matua Charlie Petera passed away last night at his home in Ngataki. Such a humble and yet great man who honoured his calling as one of the last survivors of the 28th Maori Battallion A Company, and always shared his sharp mind and great heart with all who came to him.
Matua Charlie will be brought to Geards here in Kaitaia this morning (Saturday 11 June) and will return to Waiora marae in the afternoon. We will advise further details of the tangihanga as they come to hand
Ka aroha ki tana whanau hapu iwi. Moe mai ra e te rangatira. Ki a koe te Atua noho pai.
