10/02/2015: RAHUI LIFTED

The rahui that was placed last month from Mangonui to Taipa, following the loss of 25 year old Rangi Tapu at Cable Bay, was lifted on Tuesday 10th February 2015 by Ngati Kahu Kaumatua Kuia.

We are sad that Rangi's body has still not been recovered. However the time of rahui has now come to an end. Ngati Kahu thank all those who showed respect for our tikanga and aroha for Rangi and his whanau.

13/01/2015: RAHUI EXTENDED

The rahui placed by Ngati Kahu Kaumatua following the suspected drowning of the diver at Cable Bay last week has now been extended to a month from today.

The tikanga (protocol and practice) is that if a body is found in the first week after a drowning, then a 2 week rahui is placed. If it is still not found after a week, then a month long rahui is placed.

01/01/2015: NEW YEAR, NEW BROOM

The charitable trust Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust has today confirmed the appointment of Tania Thomas to the role of CEO, effective 19 January 2015. Ms Thomas is of Ngati Kahu ancestry and has extensive leadership experience in the disability sector, most recently serving as the director of the Families Commission’s Centre for Family and Whanau Knowledge and earlier spending 12 years in the Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner, first in the role of director of advocacy and then as deputy health and disability commissioner – disability.
