Owners Repossess Kaitāia Airport
The owners of the lands on which Kaitāia Airport and Rangiāniwaniwa Kura have been built repossessed their lands today. The government took the land from Kataraina Mātenga in the 1940s and is now attempting to sell it to a neighbouring iwi.

FROM WAATEA NEWS: "As the northern tide reached its lowest ebb yesterday morning, Ngareta Jones died peacefully at her home at Hihi on the shore of the Mangonui Harbour after a long battle with cancer.
"The 56-year-old was one of the founders of Te Kawariki, the movement that brought out a new generation of northern youth in the early 1980s to protest the crown’s failure to honour the Treaty of Waitangi.

Lady Emily Latimer died on Tuesday morning, 1st September, at her home in Pamapuria, near Kaitaia, on the eve of her 87th birthday. She is lying at Te Paatu Marae for the tangi. Funeral details will follow.
