22/05/12: UPDATE ON APPLICATION FOR BINDING RECOMMENDATIONS AGAINST THE CROWN

Last month the Tribunal ruled that it had jurisdiction to hear Ngāti Kahu's application for binding recommendations against the Crown (i.e. order the Crown to return SoE and Crown forest lands plus compensation to Ngāti Kahu). It also asked Ngāti Kahu to make submissions on what criteria and principles it should take into account when hearing that application. Ngāti Kahu filed its memo on 4th May.

10/05/12: NGĀTI KAHU AT THE 11TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS PERMANENT FORUM ON INDIGENOUS ISSUES

The history of Ngāti Kahu at the UN is quite long.

Ngāti Kahu is a member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and, although we do not attend every session of the Forum, this is the third time we have sent a delegation to let the other indigenous peoples of the world know what this government is really doing to Māori katoa - which is the main purpose for our membership in participation.

02/05/12: URGENCY APPLICATIONS TO WAITANGI TRIBUNAL ON THE CROWN'S DEEDS OF SETTLEMENT WITH TE AUPŌURI, TE RARAWA AND NGĀITAKOTO

On 18th April 2012, 1st May 2012 and 21 May 2012 applications were lodged in behalf of Ngāti Kahu with the Waitangi Tribunal seeking urgent hearings into the Crown's deeds of settlement with Te Aupōuri, Te Rarawa and Ngāitakoto respectively; in so far as they cause prejudice to Ngāti Kahu. Below are links to the Statements of Claim for Ngāti Kahu and their accompanying Memos of Counsel. Also to a memo from the Crown giving assurance that it won't be in a position to introduce legislation on its deeds until July or August.
