07/09/2020: MAHIA NGA MAHI WAIRUA O NGA TOHUNGA KI TE MAU-O-NGA-TANIWHA

Yesterday, in a ceremony that blended the indigenous and Christian beliefs of Ngati Kahu and Ngapuhi, spiritual leaders from the hapu on both sides of the Mangamuka Gorge (which has been closed since July 18th as the result of multiple slips) stabilised the mauri of the maunga with karakia and waerea, rendering it safe for Waka Kotahi contractors and workers before they commence the work of repairing and reopening SH1.

31/08/2020: PROJECT "TE HAPAI O" LAUNCHED BY TE RUNANGA-A-IWI O NGATI KAHU

Today, Te Rūnanga-ā-Iwi o Ngāti Kahu opened the next phase of our COVID-19 Pandemic Response and Recovery Plan with the launch of “Project Te Hāpai Ō”.

This project has been developed and is based on many deep and lengthy discussions amongst our member Marae Delegates, our Social Portfolio Convenors and our operational partners and leaders.

The Project’s mission is to strengthen the mana motuhake of whānau, hapū and iwi who descend from Kahutianui and Te Parata during these challenging times as we move through the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Following the re-emergence of community transmission of COVID-19 in Aotearoa and the reinstatement of Alert Level 3 in Auckland and Alert Level 2 in the rest of the country at noon on Wednesday 12th August, your Rūnanga Board and Operations and our partners (Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust and Te Whare Ruruhau o Meri) have pivoted from recovery back to response.
